Configuring Outlook 2000
- In the Outlook top menu, pull down Tools, then select the Accounts... option.
- Select the appropriate mail account and click the Properties... button.
- Click on the Servers tab and then make note of the Account name and Incoming Mail (POP3) settings.
- Change Account Name setting to be a combination of the original Account Name setting and the Incoming mail server (POP3) setting, separated by a colon. Then, change the Incoming mail server (POP3) setting to "127.0.0.1".
- Click the Apply button and then click the OK button to close the dialog.
- Close the remaining window by clicking the X in the upper-right corner of the window.
- You're done! If SAproxy is running, then your mail will be downloaded through SAproxy. If SAproxy is not running, then you will not be able to download your mail until you restore your original settings.
Filtering in Outlook 2000
This section describes how to set up a filter in Outlook to take advantage of SAproxy.
- In the Outlook top menu, pull down Tools, then select the Rules Wizard... option.
- In the Rules Wizard dialog, click on the New... button.
- Select Check messages when they arrive and click the Next button.
- Check the With specific words in the message headers box.
- Click on the underlined value that reads "specific words". Type "X-Spam-Flag: YES" (without the quotation marks) and click the OK button and then click the Next button.
- Check the Move it to the specified folder box.
- Click on the underlined value that reads "specified". This will bring up the Rules Wizard folder selection window.
- Click the New... button to create a new folder and name it Spam. Click the OK button. If asked if you would like to "Add a shortcut to the Outlook bar?", click NO. Click the OK button again.
- Check the Stop processing more rules box. Click the Next button and then click on Next again.
- Click the Finish button to finish.
- Ensure that your newly-created rule is at the top of the list by using the Move Up and Move Down buttons.
- Click the OK button to close the dialog.
- Now, incoming spam will automatically go into the Spam folder. You may want to check through it periodically just in case you have any false positives.
